Mirrors

Reflections on the environment

When we talk about an important piece of furniture that we can find in every home, we cannot fail to mention the mirror.

This furnishing accessory was first created around 3,000 B.C. in present-day Turkey. Small and very expensive, they were considered divine objects and were used in sacred rituals. From there onward, mirrors were increasingly used by ancient civilizations by making them out of fine materials, so as to convey a feeling of luxury and prestige thatonly a few could possess.

To make an informed choice about buying a mirror, several variables must be taken into account such as: shape, size, material and style that the mirror has.

What matters is the shape

The shapes that a mirror can take are endless, round, square, rectangular, oval or indefinitely shaped and without pattern.

The size affects the weight and thickness, the bigger it is the heavier and thicker it will be.

The material used for the frame will fit the style you have chosen. You can use wood, metal, painted or coated wood fiberboard, PVC and resin.

Finally, the style is what will characterize the room where the mirror will be placed. Whether it is designer, glamorous, shabby, bohemian, industrial or natural you will always find a mirror that suits you.

How to place the mirror is the last step to decide. Besides the classic wall mirror, it can be placed on the floor.

A mirror can be placed in any room of a house. It widens spaces and gives a sense of grandeur and brightness. Understanding also where the mirror(s) will be placed is critical in order to make the best purchase.

Placing a mirror in front of a window, such as in the hallway or in a bedroom, so it will be able to illuminate the room without the use and waste of electricity.

Richard McClintock, a Latin scholar from Hampden-Sydney College, is credited with discovering the source behind the ubiquitous filler text. In seeing a sample of lorem ipsum, his interest was piqued by consectetur—a genuine, albeit rare, Latin word. Consulting a Latin dictionary led McClintock to a passage from De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (“On the Extremes of Good and Evil”), a first-century B.C. text from the Roman philosopher Cicero.
